How to track Polymarket whales and top holders
Yelodata · 26 October 2026
A Polymarket price tells you what the market thinks. The holders tell you who thinks it. This guide shows how to see a market's biggest holders, tell proven traders from wallets that usually lose, and find where the big money is moving across the whole site.
What a "whale" is on Polymarket
A whale is simply a wallet holding a large position. Size alone tells you little. A $200K holder who has lost money in most markets they've touched isn't worth following. A $15K holder with a long record of profitable calls might be. So tracking whales is really two questions: who holds the most, and how good are they.
Both answers are public. Every Polymarket position sits in a wallet on the Polygon blockchain, and the wallet's full trading history comes with it.
Step 1: see a market's top holders
Polymarket lists the top holders of each side on the market page. That gives you sizes, but not records. To score them, paste the market link into @yeloop_bot and choose Smart Score scan. It pulls the top holders on both sides at once (25 per side on the free plan, up to 100 on Pro and Elite) and scores each one.
Step 2: score them by track record
The Smart Score rates each holder from −60 to +70, from four parts:
- Lifetime profit (±35). Profit and loss across all their other markets. This market's own result is left out, so the score measures skill elsewhere, not luck here.
- Win rate (±15). The share of resolved positions that made money, including losing positions the wallet never bothered to redeem. Many trackers skip those, which makes everyone look better than they are. It only counts with 10 or more resolved positions.
- Conviction (0 to 10). How much of the wallet's money sits in this position. A big bet from a proven trader says more than a small one.
- Longshot calls (±10). Rewards cheap entries that paid off, and marks down cheap entries that are still underwater.
In our scoring, 30 or more marks a skilled trader and 55 or more the best of them. Negative scores are wallets that have lost more than they've won.
A real example
Here are the four highest-scored holders from a Smart Score scan of "Will Kylian Mbappé win the 2026 Ballon d'Or?" on 26 October 2026, top 25 holders per side:
| Top holders | Side | Win rate | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0x9a4a…170f | No | 96% of 166 | +57 |
| 0x020b…d13c | Yes | 78% of 172 | +55 |
| 0x09be…9c32 | No | 94% of 510 | +53 |
| 0x2a01…6397 | Yes | 73% of 506 | +51 |
Strong traders sit on both sides, which is normal for a market priced at 30¢. Neither side has a monopoly on skill.
Step 3: read the Smart Gap
The Smart Gap sums up which side the higher-scored money is on. It's the weighted average score of the Yes holders minus that of the No holders. Each holder is weighted by their position size and by their score squared, so a strong trader pulls the average much harder than a large but mediocre one.
In the Mbappé scan, Yes holders averaged +19.1 and No holders +24.8. That's a Smart Gap of −5.7: the higher-scored money leans No, slightly. A positive gap would mean it leans Yes.
The Smart Gap is a who's-who of the market, not a forecast. Copying it has lost money in our tracking, and we say so. Use it to know who you're trading against.
Step 4: track whales across all markets
Scoring one market at a time is slow if you don't know where to look. Two tools cover the whole site.
Market sweeps
A sweep runs the insider scan over the top 20 markets by volume, or the top 20 in politics, crypto, sports or culture, on both sides, and ranks them by how many big holders look insider-like. Here's the top of a real sweep of the 20 biggest markets on 26 October 2026:
- Will the US confirm that aliens exist before 2027? Yes side8 elevated · peak 64
- Will China invade Taiwan by end of 2026? Yes side7 elevated · peak 63
- Will Jesus Christ return before 2027? No side2 elevated · peak 63
- Will the US confirm that aliens exist before 2027? No side2 elevated · peak 60
Each result comes with a button to scan that market properly. Sweeps are on the Pro and Elite plans. For what "elevated" means and why most of it is pattern only, see how to spot insider trading on Polymarket.
Alerts
Yeloop's tracker also flags large trades as they happen and sends them to you, each with a button to scan the market. How soon you get them depends on the plan: in real time on Elite, 30 minutes after the flag on Pro, 2 hours on Basic and 6 hours on Free. It's an activity feed, not picks.
Mistakes to avoid
- Following size instead of skill. The biggest holder is often not the best one.
- Trusting a win rate on a handful of bets. Five wins in a row is luck as often as skill. That's why the Smart Score ignores win rate under 10 resolved positions.
- Forgetting that whales can be wrong, or hedged. A big Yes position might be one leg of a bigger trade elsewhere.
- Copying instead of reading. Knowing who holds a market helps you understand the price. It doesn't tell you the outcome.
